There’s something really special about little girls. They have a special brand of happy. I have six daughters and each of them has brought so much joy, warmth, and love into my life through their smiles, hugs, kisses, notes, drawings, fun and zany fashion sense, singing, dancing, and laughter. Lots of silly laughter.

One should always have a special little girl in their life, whether she be a daughter, granddaughter, goddaughter, niece, or neighbor. Somehow life is not so bad when you are with your special little girl. Burdens and concerns are easier to carry or even forget during those moments. A smile becomes a regular accessory on your face. You catch yourself singing or humming “Let it go” at work, at the grocery store, in the car. And pink becomes your favorite color.

And you just melt when she hugs you. Your shoulders relax, your pulse slows down, you take a deep breath as you let the warmth of her hug fill your every bone and every muscle. At that moment, she’s your nurse, your doctor, your antidote, your cure. And you can say without hesitation that you are happy.

Today, my youngest daughter and I took a little impromptu adventure after school. The beautiful, warm, colorful Autumn afternoon was irresistible. We took a lovely golden walk at nearby Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. I took pictures while my daughter talked, skipped, ran, and even did some gymnastics. We enjoyed our beautiful surroundings. We laughed. We held hands and marched. We even sang songs from “Star Wars”. “Daaaa daaaa da da da daaaa daaaa!” It was hilarious and just plain silly.

And I was oh so happy.

Full of gratitude for my special little girl and my not-so-little-any-more girls. 🙂
