Last weekend, I ran away from home. Actually, I had permission. I attended a religious retreat. To just be.

I am truly grateful for the much needed time away. Little did I know, my withdrawal from my busy every day life and my entering into the prayerful and quiet peace of the beautiful convent in the hills, prepared me for this emotionally stressful week (and the week is not over yet!).

I am so thankful for the chance to stop and take an account of God’s goodness in my life. Having a thankful heart is truly my most effective weapon against negativity and self doubt.

To live by grace means to acknowledge my whole life story, the light side and the dark. In admitting my shadow side I learn who I am and what God’s grace means. As Thomas Merton put it, “A saint is not someone who is good but who experiences the goodness of God.
